New Year's Day means it's resolution time

Every year we have the opportunity to turn a leaf, make a change, and do something positive that can enhance our lives.
We call these opportunities resolutions.
Various products and devices offer assistance in creating a new you for and warding off that which is threatening our very existence.
According to promotional advertising, we can address the battle of the bulge by taking fat-burning pills, getting on calorie-burning machines and drinking specially formulated beverages that guarantee to taste as good as an old fashioned milkshake. We can also address our skin-aging process with a cajillion varieties of creams, lotions or potions that also guarantee to make us look and feel years younger.
I’m having a hard time buying into some of the concepts that are “guaranteed to work,” even with umpteen testimonials swearing so.
As far as I’m concerned, we create our own fate when it comes to putting on pounds.
First of all, how hard is it to eliminate or at least downsize the food groups that are most often the culprits?
