To sleep or not to sleep, that is the question
20.05.12
You can almost spot a new parent from a mile away.
They usually haven't combed their hair in three days, their clothes are untucked or on inside out because they haven't slept in weeks, and the bags under their eyes from sheer exhaustion could hold more luggage than a carry-on bag.
You don't realize how long you can go without sleeping until you have a baby.
The first few months after Jack was born, he was up every two hours like clockwork.
I've tried really hard not to complain about it because every parent goes through it so I'm not special and if you do complain every mother tells you that their baby was up 95 times during the night so I should consider myself lucky.
The funny thing is, now that Jack is sleeping mostly through the night, I actually feel more tired than I did before. I think it's because subconsciously I'm thinking he's just lulling us into a false sense of security by sleeping eight hours at a time for every night in a week when he'll be up again 10 times during the night for the next month. Babies are sneaky like that.
