Next trip to Sweet Bones at The Summit will be 'to go' -- and someone else ...

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Sweet Bones Alabama is about more than just barbecue. There’s shrimp and catfish, several steaks, fresh salads, really good vegetables and some of the best chicken wings around.
That’s a good thing.
On our two recent visits, the varied menu turned out to be an absolute saving grace, because both times this barbecue restaurant was, inexplicably, out of much of its barbecue.
Seriously.
On our first visit, they were out of baby back ribs, smoked chicken, pulled chicken and pulled pork. Hard to imagine a barbecue restaurant running out of pulled pork, but it was true. On our second visit, they didn’t have spareribs or smoked chicken. We might never get to try the smoked Yardbird or Freebird (the name varies according to whether you’re looking at the in-house menu or the one on the website).
On our initial visit, on a Sunday night during the busy holiday season when there are a great many hungry people at The Summit, we arrived to find the dining room fairly empty. We quickly found out that people were leaving upon learning how many of the barbecue offerings were unavailable. Our server made sure we really wanted to stay before taking our orders. We did and made the best of it.
