Dogma for introducing Fido, children

Unfortunately, our littlest house guest, our friends' 2-year-old daughter, refused to come in.
She was terrified of Oliver, a notion I had never considered, because to us, our lazy, big-bellied chocolate-brown Dachshund is a member of our family.
Ollie joins us for dinner every night (albeit waiting for scraps under the table). He's there on the couch when the family watches TV. And he comes with us on trips — from Grandma's house to camping to getaways on the beach.
Ollie is so loved, we were a little worried that when Gracie was born he would not do well with the competition. But he assumed the role of big brother seamlessly, walking protectively in front of her stroller, snuggling up close during bottles and joining us every night for bedtime stories.
In turn, Gracie is so used to Ollie she doesn't blink when he erupts into barks or nuzzles noses with her on the floor. Her first belly laughs came after watching him scurry around her ExerSaucer.
