HyVee's Grand Buffet serves up a world of food
Consider the Grand Buffet, one of the all-time great bargains youre likely to find. In-house diners can cruise among four food areas: home-style American, salads and desserts, Italian and Chinese. Cost: $9.99; $6.99 for seniors, $4.99 for children under 12.Cases are constantly replenished by way of the perpetual motion in the kitchens. Servers at each station stand ready to comply with customers requests.
Diners have a plethora of options, Kitchen Manager Jay Herlein said.
People come around with multiple plates of food, with small portions on each plate, just to get the flavor, he said. Instead of eating all out of one case or one area, you can dabble here and there.
The operation stresses safety, he said. One thing about our buffet: Its not self-service. Instead of numerous diners handling spoons and ladles, glove-wearing servers prepare each plate.
Herlein, an Iowa City, Iowa, native who transferred to Springfield from Madison, Wis., said hes learning a new set of food preferences.
