Tot Swap attracts hundreds of parents to Frederick fairgrounds
As a brand new mom, Urbana resident Sheri Levine wants to spend her money wisely and not drop hundreds of dollars on exersaucers, bouncy seats and other baby items that will get outgrown and forgotten in a year — or less.
So she and her mother-in-law came to the Tot Swap at the Frederick fairgrounds on Friday to look for deals and make some smart buys.
Stocked with more than 40,000 gently-used baby and toddler items, the three-day seasonal consignment event had everything she needed.
Among other things, Levine picked up what she thinks is a $100 Baby Einstein ExcerSaucer for $30 and paid $45 for a brand-new looking REI hiking child carrier, which could have been $90 at a store, according to an online search.
“My mother-in-law was looking up things online and she says everything she got was 50 percent off,” said Levine, who plans to invest the money she saved into her childcare expenses and a savings account for her 7-week-old son Alexander.
“I am going back to work in a couple of weeks,” she said. “There are plenty of things the money could go for.”
