USED BUT STILL USEFUL

Lori House is thrilled when she finds a treasure and saves money.
Like a $150 Chicco high chair for $35, or a $75 ExerSaucer for $20. Or her major score: a like-new Pottery Barn kids bumper and crib skirt for $15; retail is more than $100, she said.
Whale of a Sale was the first kids consignment sale House visited. It was when she was pregnant with her third child two years ago. She's been to every sale since. "That's when I scored all of those deals," said House, 38, Zionsville, a stay-at-home mom with three boys, Jeffrey, 8; Matthew, 7; and William, 20 months.
This week, she is a shopper, consignor and a volunteer at Whale of a Sale, which runs March 15-17 at Meridian Village Plaza, 136th and Meridian streets, in Carmel. Consignors who volunteer to help with the sale enjoy the perks of early shopping and higher commission. She puts the money she makes from items she sells back into her budget for her children. The average consignor at Whale of a Sale sells about $272.
